Grey Area has invited 3 video artists to take part in an exhibition focused upon the slippages of displayed emotion and constructed identities.
The featured work responds to the unique exhibition space by appropriating filmic devices such as archival footage, the placement of audience, and suspended behaviors, to create a resonant staged environment.
Surrealism combines with the distinctly familiar in loops of empathy and co-existence.

In Acceptance, the artist stands and reads an edited script of actual Oscar acceptance speeches. His eyes are wedged open with matchsticks causing water to swell. Cotton wool balls are wedged in his cheeks, and his lips and teeth are glossed with petroleum jelly. During his speech his hands clutch a dead fish.

I am interested in the power of television and film in shaping our perception of the world. My work is informed by a psychological term called ‘Introjection’, in particular a subtle form called 'Media Introjection', which is our assimilation of behaviours from TV and films. I aim to explore the emotive ability of these media in provoking intense emotions and the influence of television, film and images in the construction of our identities and thus how we express our emotions.
